Pressure Testing for Water-Resistant Watches

The Power of Pressure Testing: Preserving Water-Resistance in Your Watch

It is important to maintain the water resistance of a watch through pressure testing. After all, why would one purchase a water-resistant watch if it wasn’t meant to withstand water?

Over time, wear and tear can affect the gaskets of the watch, which can impact its ability to repel moisture, dust and dirt. By conducting pressure testing, all components of the watch, including the movement and dial, are protected against water damage.

We strongly advise conducting water resistance checks frequently, especially for watches that are worn daily and come into frequent contact with water, such as during swimming. We recommend pressure tests every 6 months.

Regular water resistance checks not only benefit the watch but also ensure the components are preserved for long-lasting durability. Early detection of leaks can save a lot of money in the long run and extend the watch’s life span.

State of The Art Equipment for Press Testing

We have state of the art pressure testing equipment which can test up to 500m, making it suitable for deep sea diving. If the watch does not pass the pressure test, our machinery allows us to find out exactly where a leak is coming from. This could be from the case back, crown, glass or chronograph pushers. The water resistance can be compromised if any of these parts get damaged.

We are then able to recommend additional repairs to bring the watch back to the original manufacturer’s specifications. Whenever we open water resistant watches, whether it is to replace the battery, service the watch, or perform any internal repairs, we always pressure test the watch to ensure it has been resealed correctly.

By conducting rigorous pressure testing, we ensure that all watches leaving our facility meet the highest water-resistant standards, providing our clients with peace of mind and a watch that will last for years to come.

"RWR offer an excellent service. I used them to replace a Tag Heuer watch battery during lockdown. The watch was returned promptly, the price was very competitive and I was kept informed throughout the process. I would recommend them and will use them in future"
